Veterinary Medical Care
Wellness Check-Ups
Your pet needs routine check-ups as much as we do. Regular comprehensive exams will help us identify issues early on and help us to increase the longevity and quality of your pet’s life. Routine health care benefits all pets, young and old, but we recommend your older dogs and cats get checked annually as more problems arise in old age.
We want our pet parents to be involved in the process and become an integral part of your pet’s health care team. We encourage questions during exams and will work closely with you to create a wellness program based on your pet’s needs.
Vaccinations
Until your puppy or kitty has been vaccinated, they are susceptible to many serious yet preventable diseases. Much like children, our fur-babies need protection against life-threatening diseases. As well, vaccines help to control outbreaks and keep your entire community of animals healthy and safe.
We provide vaccinations for your new dog against rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and other known diseases. For your little kitty, we provide vaccination against rabies, distemper and may recommend Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). In addition, our team will also test and treat parasites, which are common in young dogs and cats.
Radiology
Boardwalk Animal Hospital is equipped to produce radiographs for any size dog or cat. X-rays may be used at any point of a medical assessment as we can easily interpret everything from your pet’s heart size to their likelihood of developing arthritis. When the issue is not easily seen on the outside, we will use X-rays to help identify the cause of the problem – including finding that “missing toy”.
Surgeries
Our veterinarians perform all common surgical procedures, including spaying and neutering. We are also capable of performing more complex surgeries including abdominal and soft tissue surgeries. All of our patients undergo general anesthetic for their comfort and are carefully monitored throughout the process as well as through the recovery stage. Depending on your pet’s case, we may also provide pain medication for your pet’s comfort while recovering at home.
Specialist Referrals
In the event your pet requires specialized care, our veterinarians and veterinary assistants will refer patients to veterinary specialists for the best possible outcome. Board-certified specialists, such as oncologists, ophthalmologists, behaviourists, cardiologists, radiologists, dentists, dermatologists, surgeons, internists and neurologists, have extensive experience and training to appropriately and safely treat your pet. Specialty clinics also have specialized equipment to perform procedures that are not routinely performed by Boardwalk Animal Hospital. Please know that when we refer a patient to another hospital, we continue to stay involved with their care, consulting with the treating specialist and often providing any needed follow-up care and rehabilitation.
